Level1 Coaching Course

As most people know i play wheelchair basketball for a team called Vikings2009 based in St Helens. A few months ago i was askedif i would like to do my level1 coaching course which classifies you as an assistant coach to level2.

Playing at Rochdale Town Hall

A few years ago a friend of mine told me you could hire the organ at Rochdale town hall for a cheap rate. I enquired and found out it only cost £2.50 an hour and have been a regular organist for a number of years. Today was the first time had been in a few months and i decided to take Nic my girlfriend as she had never been before and as a keen photographer she would love the great hall that the organ exists in.

We turned up around 1730 and we went straight up t the hall. I sat at the organ while Nic wandered around taking numerous photos before she stumbled across a very old baby grand piano. As soon as i heard her say babygrand i was down the steps of the stage and playing n the piano

As you can see the picture to the right shows the organ situated in the main hall.

As some people may know i used to plsy the organ at st Marys in cadishead for funerals and sunday service. It had been a while since i last played.

As you step up to the organ their is galss shutter which yo pull up, then to the right there is a stop and start button which controls the lights aboce the organ and the blower motor at the back. When you press it you hear this overpowering motor start and a slight draft come throguh the stoppers as you start pulling them out to make the organ sing.

Picture to the left is organ up close.

The organ was restored a few years ago by company in rochdale the overhauled the motor and some of the pipes. It took them a number of years to get it finely tuned to which it is now in full working order.

Life in a wheelchair - Day Three

Hi! You've got a guest blogger today and its my first time at this blogging business so be patient with me! I'm Nic (thats me over there with the beautiful Aston Martin) and because Dan is off being very busy teaching I said I'd help out by writing up the mischief we had on Day Three off his week in a wheelchair...

Day 2

Well yesterday was quite interesting I made my way down to C4C in the morning to take a corporate session for a company called Simply Health. I have worked with the same group around 12months ago and I have got quite good friends with two of the managers!
The session started at 13:30 with 10 members of staff for their teambuilding session. I gave the briefing as per and then moved on in to the tyre pit to do the warm up where I had my first hurdle trying to demonstrate hamstring stretches proved to be quite difficult aswell as getting the groups attention at waist height!!! We did a couple of run through's and made out way on to the assault course for general activities but that was the next problem the arena is filled with wood chip which wheel chairs struggle to cope with but I struggled on! We did around an hour on the floor and then it was time for the aerial rope activities which again was a struggle as I couldn't make up the aerial access net, I couldn't make it on the chop to belay on the leap so it only left me one activity with the group which was the Jacobs ladder which went amaizingly well!! After everybody had a go Sam the senior Trainer took the team on to the aerial trek from the on I shouted various encouraging comments to help them go round!!! I finished around 16:00 by which time I was absolutely shattered and I made my way to barton for some food and then home!!!
It was interesting trying to deliver training and not many people taking too much notice! It will be different trying to teach on thursday and friday!!!
