Challenge 4 change was set up with the idea of Chris Whiteley the project director. In his early years he played for Salford City Reds he then moved in to working in the prison service starting off in Maidstone, moving on to Wymott and then finally Lancaster Farms. While Chris was serving at HMP Wymott he built an assault course for prisoners to use. When he did the official opening he invited everyone he could think of and snuck them in to the prison for the opening. Chris decided that he wanted to create a program or an incentive to keep young people pf the streets. As most people know that if young people are involved in violence the are involved in some sort of crime whether it be drug abuse, alcohol abuse and domestic abuse.
Chris started going in to schools delivering a program called Wysdom. Providing personal development with problem solving, team building and communication with two bits of string and a toilet roll. Chris wanted to develop the project more and put his idea in to a bid company where he was approached by Richard Hogben the chair of the Charity who said he would help Chris develop his idea. Richard and Chris decided to approach Manchester Solutions who would help them later to build the centre.
Now managing to have found a place to build and money to do the job they set about building. Chris was put in to contact with a man called Brian Phelps from Vertigo Pursuits who built C4C challenges. It now has lots of partners who are helping to fund different projects around the Northwest
The centre has now had around 5000 people through the doors it is open to people in all aspects of life from fully able to to full blown disabilities.
