As most people know i play wheelchair basketball for a team called Vikings2009 based in St Helens. A few months ago i was askedif i would like to do my level1 coaching course which classifies you as an assistant coach to level2.
Charlie and Ste met me and Nic in Bury and then went to nandos for tea. Then us three boys made the journey up to sheffield. We arrived at the hotel and did the complimentry 3 s's ( S**t, shower and shave). We made our way in to sheffield got some essentials from tesco (fosters) and then got back to the hotel to realx from the long day ahead.
We had planned to get up around at 7.30 so we could all get chance to get ready and get around for 8.30 So we could get to the venue on time. At 8.20 I heard "Shit it's twenty past eight!" That was the moment I realised Charlie would make a fantastic alarm clock! It was a mad dash to get ready to get up and out we were all dressed and ready (sort of) for 08.30!
We arrived at the venue and got ourselves settled to do the first two hours classroom based work and then the rest of the day practical. The classroom based stuff was all around Health and Safety, Roles of the assistant coach, SafeGuarding. Then it was time to move out on to the court.
We started of with Warm Up techniques to get your players warmed up and get the heart rates up! I was pretty much used to this kind of stuff with working at C4C. We then went into warm up drills and chair skills to get players talking and working together on court.
We then took it right back to basics so Chair Skills, Ball Skills looking at different drills to run through to get new players in to the sport.
We then started to look at different skills you will acquire as you start to progress in basketball - dribbling with the ball, passing, shooting techniques and different ways of getting players in to the key.
After we had all these kind of techniques and run throughs shown and demonstrated to us it was time for us to get our subject for our 10 minute demonstration on Sunday. I have got passing.
Myself and Ste would like to thank Mary for booking the hotel!
Roll on day two!
Bye for now!
